Goals
I am Andy, a recent graduate of a major Canadian university and a Young Adult Volunteer with the Presbyterian Church (USA), housed in New Orleans. I am a Construction Assistant with Project Homecoming, a disaster relief program of the Presbytery of South Louisiana, and my main responsibility is to work with volunteer groups that come down to the Gulf Coast. This blog aims to:
- Explain my experiences. The mundane, the extraordinary. Every day in post-Katrina New Orleans is unusual.
- Illuminate what is happening in New Orleans and the Coast as a whole. There is much to be done in this city and we pray that as the Earth spins and the calendar turns, that people will still come to fix the damage done by Katrina and Rita.
- Give my take on the politics of disaster. Katrina, perhaps more so than any natural disaster in American history, was and still is a political issue. As I live in this city mired in the politics of mother nature, I hope to share what it looks like to me.
